Building on the Blocks: Where I Stand

by Esenam Amuzu

It’s that time of the year, they say, when a particular place in the world gets busy and alive—bustling with people from all walks of life. There are numerous meetings and discussions; after all is said and done, more is said than done.

I dare to say, that if humanity could get better, this is the time, and I am more than thrilled to be here and part of this historic event.

The United Nations General Assembly is happening again, and while everything seems like the usual, this 79th session, brings to us the historic SUMMIT of THE FUTURE.

It’s been a personal year of celebrating feats, ICPD+30, my personal year at 30 years old and the landmark Summit of the FUTURE. As discussions go on to finalize the PACT for the FUTURE, I will be busy examining, understanding and pushing for the important role of reproductive health, as the world looks to the future.

I look forward to drawing down a beautiful curtin on SRHR discussions and ensuring that like 30 years ago, when leaders sat for the ICPD in Cairo, the future from now will reflect the important decisions and discussions made for us and with us young people, leaving no one behind.
