Driving FP2030 Goals: Private Sector Engagement for Health and Development

At the 8th Nigeria Family Planning Conference 2024, experts convened to discuss the critical theme, “Private Sector Engagement on Family Planning for Improved Health Outcomes; FP2030 Commitment Making.” The panel, moderated by Dr. Ejike, explored the transformative potential of public-private partnerships in advancing family planning and achieving Nigeria’s FP2030 commitments.

Dr. Samuel Oyeniyi underscored the importance of engaging private sector players to close gaps in family planning service delivery. Highlighting self-care initiatives and intentional policies, he emphasized that these strategies not only expand access but also ensure equitable health outcomes for all Nigerians. “Private sector engagement isn’t just beneficial—it’s essential for driving impactful results and delivering on FP2030 goals,” he noted.

Ann Adahogoh, representing Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PSHAN), focused on innovative financing as a key enabler. She emphasized that family planning transcends being a health intervention, calling it a powerful tool for economic growth and sustainable development. Strategic private sector investment, she explained, can bridge funding gaps, ensuring consistent availability of family planning commodities across Nigeria.

This dynamic session reinforced the importance of collaborative approaches between the public and private sectors. By fostering innovation, intentional policies, and strategic investments, Nigeria can accelerate its journey toward universal health coverage (UHC), improved family planning access, and broader socio-economic development.
