11 Organizations Revolutionizing SRHR the LAC Region

by Natalia de León

On the first day of the fair, I was nearly moved to tears. Throughout the past 6 months, FP2030 and Share-Net Colombia had been carefully monitoring the implementation of the 11 projects that were selected as the grantees of the call for knowledge translation in family planning, sexual and reproductive health and rights for populations affected by crisis.

Participants of the Partnership Fund Fair

This Partnership Fund sought to advance the sexual and reproductive rights agenda for people who are oftentimes left behind the most in the Latin America and Caribbean region, such as: youth and adolescents, people with disabilities, people belonging to the LGTBIQ+ community, people in situations of migration, asylum and human mobility, people affected by climate change and natural disasters, and people in conditions of extreme poverty. FP2030 viewed this as a priority to address considering that a greater collective effort is needed to ensure that these people have access to sexual health and reproductive and family planning methods and the full enjoyment of their sexual and reproductive rights.

I still recall the excitement of when we opened the call for proposals, the fulfillment when we received over 50 proposals, and the challenging nature of selecting the projects, among so many distinguished proposals. Now, witnessing the 11 selected projects—each exceptional in its field—everything feels truly meaningful. What once began as a vision has transformed into a vibrant network of organizations, each bringing unique strengths yet united by a shared commitment. Together, they are shaping the future of family planning in the region, driving progress, innovation, and lasting impact.

These organizations received a total of $80,000, and as a result: 58,000 people have been direct beneficiaries of these projects, including LGBTQ+ communities, youth, Afro-descendant populations, and migrants. Additionally, 17 countries have benefited directly and indirectly from our fund. The projects include chatbots providing information about vasectomies, podcasts raising awareness about sex work, and contraception stands designed for youth and adolescents—all innovative initiatives driving progress in family planning across the region.

Personally, I believe the Partnership Fund is far more than just a donor-grantee relationship. The encounter in Panama was a truly beautiful moment—after countless emails, we finally met face-to-face, forging deeper connections on both a personal and professional level. We analyzed the fund’s tangible results, witnessing firsthand the impact of our collective efforts. But beyond that, we strengthened the alliance we have built, reaffirming our shared commitment to advancing family planning and reproductive health across the region.
